Joy of Movement

Pilates and Gyrotonic® Studio

Welcome!

Joy of Movement is celebrating 20 years as a fully equipped Pilates, Gyrotonic®️ and Massage studio in the heart of Aptos Village and bordering the redwood trees of Nisene Marks State Park.

The studio, saturated with natural wood and light provides a soothing environment to settle the nervous system, challenge the body and receive high quality bodywork to come away stronger, more aligned and rejuvenated. This is your home away from home.

Rochelle brings her expertise to all the modalities at Joy of Movement. Private lessons are private, just you in the studio, and include training on the Pilates and Gyrotonic®️ equipment specific to your needs as well targeted massage and optional homework.

Duets and trios offer the same.

Classes are fun! Rochelle offers multiple modifications to make each exercise the perfect challenge for you. Ramp it up or ramp it down to make each exercise the “just right” challenge for you. Props and choreography are always changing to keep the and body curious, strengthened and mobilized in all possible ways. You will walk away refreshed and ready for your life.

With 25 years of experience doing therapeutic and deep tissue massage as well as cranial sacral therapy, these sessions are tailored to meet your specific needs. Whether you’re recovering from a recent or chronic injury, or coming in for a restorative session, bodywork offers healing space. Knitting together body, heart and psyche is the domain of the healing arts.

Classes can be booked online. For privates, duets and bodywork please contact me via email or text to book a session.

I look forward to working with you!

The reformer uses springs, pulleys, bars & straps to perform over 500 exercises in a variety of positions. The equipment was originally developed to offer movement and rehab to the injured, but today it offers a more challenging version of the matwork. Because of the reformer’s attachments, it is an ideal option for those who need modifications to the mat exercises. It is also easier to increase resistance with the reformer, creating more challenging work for the advanced Pilates client.

Movement That Supports Real Life

We design our sessions to help you move with more freedom in daily life. That may mean walking with more ease, sitting with better alignment, lifting without strain, or returning to activities you love.

Our approach combines precision, creativity, and care. We help you understand how your body moves, then guide you through exercises that build strength, balance, flexibility, and coordination.

What You Can Experience Here

When you visit our studio, you receive more than a workout. You get focused guidance, thoughtful modifications, and a plan that honors your body.

You can expect:

Private instruction tailored to your goals

Duet and trio sessions for shared support

Reformer classes with clear guidance

Gyrotonic® sessions that encourage fluid movement

Restorative bodywork and deep tissue massage

A calm studio environment that helps you reset

Private Sessions Built Around You

Private lessons give you the full attention of an experienced teacher. Rochelle works with you one-on-one using Pilates equipment, Gyrotonic® equipment, bodywork techniques, and optional homework that supports your progress between sessions.

These sessions work well if you are recovering from an injury, managing chronic pain, returning to exercise, or wanting a personalized program. We adjust every movement so it feels safe, useful, and appropriately challenging.

Reformer Classes That Keep You Curious

Our Pilates Reformer classes help you strengthen your core, improve alignment, and build full-body control. Rochelle offers modifications during class, so you can ramp the challenge up or down based on what your body needs that day.

Props and choreography change often to keep your body engaged. You leave feeling refreshed, stronger, and ready to move through life with more confidence.

Pilates and Gyrotonic Sessions for Strength and Mobility

Our Pilates and Gyrotonic offerings support both stability and fluidity. Pilates helps you build organized strength, while Gyrotonic® exercise encourages circular, flowing movement that supports the spine and joints.

Together, these methods create a balanced approach to fitness and wellness. You can improve posture, increase range of motion, strengthen deep muscles, and develop a clearer sense of how your body works.

Bodywork, Massage, and Restorative Care

With 25 years of experience in therapeutic massage, deep tissue bodywork, and craniosacral therapy, Rochelle offers sessions that address your specific needs. You may come in for injury recovery, chronic tension, nervous system support, or simple restoration.

Bodywork gives your body time to release, repair, and reorganize. We create a healing space where the body, heart, and mind can settle together.

A Studio That Meets You Where You Are

You do not need to be flexible, athletic, or experienced to begin. You only need a willingness to listen to your body and take the next step.

We work with beginners, active movers, people recovering from injuries, and clients who want long-term strength and mobility. Our goal is to help you feel capable, supported, and encouraged every time you walk through the door.
